Cultural Zeitgeist

The Young’uns at the Union Chapel

Sean Cooney is possibly the most earnest man in music and I doubt he has ever meet anyone who wasn’t “amazing”. That said how were they. Lots of new self penned songs, which are good but see comments above. Plus some older, traditional songs, so how were they. As usual very, very good and great fun.

Cultural Zeitgeist

The Swimming Pool Library by Alan Hollinghurst

His latest book, The Sparsholt Affair was described as being about sexuality, art and family secrets. That seems like a pretty good description of this one, his debut, too.

Very good by the way

Cultural Zeitgeist

The Feast of Saint Dionysus – Robert Silverberg

Collection of 5 (minor) Silverberg short stories

Very good, bought in the second-hand shop

Cultural Zeitgeist

Just watched the final episodes of The Handmaid’s Tale.

I thought it was billiant from start to finish

Also the last episode finished with my favourite song of all time

Cultural Zeitgeist

Die of Shame – Mark Billingham

Not one of the Thorne novels. Cliche alert a real page turner, rattles along at a tremnedous pace. Thoroughly entertaining and recommended

Cultural Zeitgeist

The Night Ocean by Paul La Farge

So what’s it about, secrets and scandals, H.P. Lovecraft, stories, psychiatry, obsession and how if you don’t like the story of your life tell a different one.

One of the best books I have read this year, highly recommended.

Food Standards

Hmmm… chlorinated chicken.

Most people in Britain don’t give a toss about how the meat they eat is reared and processed. If we did we wouldn’t eat half the crap we do.

Lets be honest about it, if after Brexit food prices rise most people won’t care where their chicken comes from, how it was reared, killed and processed. Just so long as it is cheap.

Cultural Zeitgeist

To the Roundhouse to see Daniel Kitson. Standup rather than one of his theatrical pieces (though to be honest still quite theatrical in places).

Still contained a lot of his usual themes, very good though and very funny

Cultural Zeitgeist

Back to the Bill Murray with Rose to see Sarah Kendall work in progress. Dont know the name of the show which is unfortunate because I am telling you all to go and see it.

It was great, really really funny and there is something about her which is just very likeable

A farewell

Woe is me, because of my injury! My wound is incurable But I said, “Truly this is a sickness, And I must bear it.”

Today we bid farewell to the heart and soul of the Infinitepirate’s blog. The man of a thousand identities is leaving us, he is not going far and we will no doubt see him again over a Full Collins

He leaves us to take up his trusty sword in a different cause at the Ministry of Truth.

We shall not see his like again (or not until next week probably)

Thank you Major
Thank you Fifi
Thank you disillusionment
Thank you frailty
Thank you consequence
Thank you thank you silence
