Christoper Logue’s War Music at Kings Place.

Description below from the Kings Place site

“Christopher Logue (1926–2011) was a political rebel, inventor of the poster poem, pioneer of poetry and jazz, but he dedicated almost half his life to a very different project: a rewriting of Homer’s Iliad. Each volume of this modern epic was a radical reimagining of Homer’s tale of warfare, human folly and the power of the gods.

War Music is now widely recognised as Logue’s masterpiece. This unique event will combine performance of this epic poem – by renowned British actress Dame Harriet Walter – with a discussion with Logue’s editor Christopher Reid, acclaimed poet Alice Oswald who was inspired by Logue and classicist Bettany Hughes who will shed light on the original Iliad and its significance.”

The discussion was interesting, Bettany Hughes and Alice Oswald (an aside, read Memorial by Alice Oswald, it’s stunning) particularly.

The readings by Harriet Walter were brilliant. All in all an excellent night.
