Aspiration

I keep hearing and reading that the contenders for the Labour leadership are in favour of aspiration.

Among the measures that they are talking about to address this are:

* No increase in top rate of tax to 50p

* No Mansion Tax

* Cuts in Corporation tax

* Tougher benefits cap

All about the aspiration of those who already have and who want more.

I haven’t heard any of them address the following aspirations:

* A job the pays enough to feed, house and clothe your family

* Not being demonised for being jobless or foreign or young or poor

* Those that crashed and burned the economy being made to pay

If Labour is going to talk about aspiration let them talk about these.

Yes people are selfish and will look after themselves, but those people have a party of their own, its called the Conservative Party.

Some of us want a party that thinks we are better than that. Labour is not that party.

To quote Billy Bragg

“I kept the faith and I kept voting
Not for the iron fist but for the helping hand
For theirs is a land with a wall around it
And mine is a faith in my fellow man”
