You know what I wan to see in this election. I want to see the parties address Beveridges “5 Giant Evils”
Squalor
Want
Ignorance
Idleness
Disease
You would think in 21st century Britain that addressing them wouldn’t be necessary, alas since Thatcher and Major and Blair and Brown and Cameron they are all on the march again.
What I don’t want is this narrow focus on the accountancy of deficit and cuts and who won’t raise what tax.
Government should be about more than who can promise to cut more slowly, death by a thousands cuts is still death.
Tell me what you are going to do, then worry about how you can afford it.
Dont tell me what you can’t afford and what you won’t do.
