We’re going to need a bigger boat…

Easter Monday stroll down to the Greenwich Ecology Park (one of the great “secret” pleasures of Greenwich). As we were going in we saw an enormous fish in the lake there, it must have been 7 or 8 feet long and at least 300-400 pounds.

When we went in Rose asked the man on duty there what it was, he explained it was a “dead fish swimming”.

It transpires that all the fish in the lakes there (and there are several thousand) are all non-native and damage the native species of frogs, toads and newts. So they kill them all.

First funnel them into an enclosed space, then stun them with electricity, remove into a barrel of clean water and then add clove oil which slowly anaesthetises them out and kills them.

I understand they do something similar to the death-row prisoners in Texas.
